The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Dr. David Rankin performs breast augmentation (enlargement) surgery in Palm Beach County, South Florida at one of the four local hospitals where he is on staff or in his private office operating suite. He begins the procedure by making an incision either around the areola, under the breast, or in the armpit. Through the incision, Dr. Rankin inserts either a saline or silicone breast implant and ensures that the breasts appear natural and symmetrical. He then closes the incisions and bandages the area. Implants may be placed either over or under the chest muscle and is dependent upon each patients individual needs.

After Breast Enlargement Surgery

The first few days after breast augmentation (enlargement) surgery, the patient may experience tenderness or pain. Pain medication is prescribed by Dr. Rankin to ease this discomfort. Although patients are encouraged to walk around after the surgery, it is important that they not engage in any strenuous activity. Although patients are usually able to return to work in approximately a week, care should be taken to avoid contact with the breasts and to refrain from any activity that involves stretching, lifting, pushing, or pulling.
