The Look of Youthful Vitality – Eyelid Surgery in South Florida

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery is a procedure designed to rejuvenate the area around the eyes. Droopy upper eyelids are lifted and baggy lower eyelids become smooth and youthful-looking with eyelid surgery at our South Florida practice. West Palm Beach and Jupiter-area residents who wish to enhance the beauty of their eyes and achieve a fresher, more youthful-looking appearance can rely on Dr. David Rankin to produce results that are beautiful and natural-looking. Often, patients will combine eyelid surgery with a facelift or brow lift to further enhance their results.

Candidates for Eyelid Surgery

People who are worried that the look of their eyes is making them appear weary or tired may make suitable candidates for eyelid surgery at our South Florida practice. Often, the natural aging process may have a negative effect on the delicate skin around our eyes, but sometimes drooping upper eyelids and baggy lower lids can be hereditary. Thus, people young and old can often benefit from eyelid surgery. Due to the nature of eyelid surgery, people who suffer from certain eye conditions may not be suitable candidates for eyelid surgery. These conditions include dry eye, glaucoma, and retinal detachment. Also, people with thyroid problems, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or other serious medical conditions should consult their physician before considering eyelid surgery.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Dr. Rankin begins upper eyelid surgery at our Jupiter and West Palm Beach-area practice by making a discreet incision in the crease of the eyelid. After removing excess skin and fat, Dr. Rankin carefully closes the incision. During lower eyelid surgery, an incision is usually made under the lash line. The doctor then removes excess fat and skin, smoothing and tightening the eye area. When bothersome pockets of fat are the only concern, an incision may be made inside the lower eyelid in order to remove the fat. After closing the incision, Dr. Rankin carefully bandages the area.

After Eyelid Surgery

Patients should apply cold compresses to their eyes and keep their head elevated after eyelid surgery. Usually, patients are able to return to work in about a week, but they should be careful to avoid activities that may expose them to sunlight, wind, sand, dust, and debris, as their eyes will be sensitive for several weeks.
